Blas Cymru / Taste Wales Postponed

Blas Cymru / Taste WalesThe very successful and brilliantly run Welsh Food and Drink trade event Blas Cymru / Taste Wales is to be postponed. Welsh Food and Drink understands that the event will run as a mixed virtual / reality event in October 2021 but have no official confirmation of this.

The 2019 BlasCymru/TasteWales event had over 780 delegates taking part, with over 1600 one-to-one business meetings facilitated. This business interaction has generated (so far as of 14th August, 2020) over £10m of new business deals and securing nearly £22m additional potential new business for Welsh food and drink producers. As part of this trade event there was 159 new and innovative Welsh food and drink products launched, with over 190 trade buyers attended, meeting over 100 Welsh food and drink producers.

A Welsh Government spokesperson said:

“Covid-19 has significantly impacted physical trade events across the world with some being cancelled, others postponed and some moving to a virtual based event.  In light of the ongoing pandemic, we have decided to postpone BlasCymru a few months until later next year and it will take place in a physical and virtual event format.

“BlasCymru has been a flagship event for the Wales food and drink industry since its inaugural event in 2017 attracting producers and buyers from across the globe. We continue to provide significant support to food businesses to grow their businesses and develop new markets. Together with the Food and Drink Wales Board, we recently published a series of priority actions to support the food and drink sector’s recovery from Covid19, including maintaining a global trade presence via virtual trade development engagement.”

Without this event Welsh Food and Drink producers still have Welsh Government support available:

  • The retailer engagement programme is being redesigned to address new challenges presented by Covid 19.
  • The Food Business Cluster programme will assist businesses with marketing including developing and enhancing on-line presence

Our exports are being supported by virtual engagement with overseas buyers, including the recent successful virtual trade development visit to Singapore.
